Just a comment on the idea that some specific type of catastrophe might come along.... Land/food/guns would be good if the US turned into Somalia but without the miltias, just individual people maruading around. Why that one specific catastrophic future? And you are thinking getting out of United States of Individualist Somalia with your gold stashed somewhere overseas would be good? Latter seems a more general strategy to me. But one can generalize and insure further.
