"You don't have 75 minutes of continuous attack by the same people."
Tim, Are you a lawyer? I guess they worked in shifts.

Your implication apparently being that its an unimportant or irrelevant fact. The reason why is is relevant is that if there was a report of an enemy vessel, any number of people can make brief attacks on the ship or boat reported as an enemy without realizing the report was false. But if the same person was attacking it for 45 minutes straight he would be more likely to notice the difference. Its not just an issue of how long one person or unit attacked the Liberty, its also the fact that it wasn't under attack for 75 minutes. The whole incident took 75 minutes but the Liberty was not under continues attack during that time even "in shifts".

It hasn't been demonstrated that any of the Israeli attackers even saw the flag, and as for ship recognition. The Liberty doesn't really stand out as a very recognizable ship.

"Friendly fire" incidents like this aren't all that unusual. Neither are accidental attacks against civilians such as the American shooting of an Iranian airliner.

Steve > Actually if you had all these people attacking, there would be more chance to see that it is an American ship.

Download and listen to this interview between Daryl Bradford Smith and Commander Ennis who was the Officer on Watch on the USS Liberty during the incident.

iamthewitness.com

Hour 1 from 18 min to end
Hour 2 from beginning to 33 min.

Details concerning the US flag(s), the identity of the attackers, interception of radio communication from the planes to their base, machine-gunning of US crew in their life-boats was all discussed plus many other things. I think this tape will help to clear up a lot of points.

IMO, Daryl Smith is hellish tedious to listen to, in fact a pain, and he keeps interrupting Ennis but the relevant details are certainly there.
