I used to buy potatoes in 10-pound bags, but they would start getting soft or even rotten before we got through the bag. Also, my wife pays for the groceries and I never have been able to convert her to the idea of bulk purchasing.

I have seen 3 instances in the last year where the price of a 10 lb bag was less than the price of a 5 lb bag, side by side in the same freaking store. Yes the same kind of potato too (typically Russets).

Yes, I have a hard time using 10 lbs before they go bad, but I'll be dammed if I am going to pay more for 5 lbs than 10. Yet while shopping, I have seen people pick up 5 lb bags simply out of habit without reading the actual prices.
