Not in the least. We don't condemn or punish people for their feelings, because we have no way of knowing what they are. Even the "guilty" person may not understand their feelings. We can only punish or condemn conduct.

If it were otherwise, all that a person accused of a hate crime would have to do is say, "I didn't do this out of hate." Then it would no longer be a hate crime.

Silly.
