I guess it comes down to usage...some computer uses might be heavily intensive in one area and may not need to be all that flexible...

Example...

Laptops might need better power consumption while just maintaining adequate processing power...you might want a dual core that consumes 5 watts at 2.0 ghz (a true portable solution) vs. a laptop that burns 25 watts at 3.2 ghz (basically a desktop replacement that can easily be moved about but is not a true mobile solution)...

Servers might have differing needs and may not need high end graphics processing and may need lower watts for energy efficiency...

Desktop workstations will have a need for maximizing computational power given a certain power consumption...

I can see 1 watt single core 64 bit processors in cell-phone like devices when 45nm comes around in a few years (Blackberry-like)...

How about low watt cpu's in current audio head units in automobiles, boats, rv's etc. that have multi-processing functional capabilities...

Possibilities only limited by one's imagination...;>)
