Nadine, I agree with much of your post..but I have to strongly disagree with your saying the Iraqis think things are better now than under Saddam and the killings are less than under his regime.

Saddam kept a tight lid on things, but people were able to actually leave the house and go to the market. NOW, they can't send their kids to school or go out at all without fear of being blown up or dragged out of their jobs and hoping they have the right ID to avoid being killed in sectarian violence. I think if the people in Baghdad could vote they would overwhelmingly vote to return to the days of Saddam.

Whatever Saddam's evils, Iraq is in worse shape now. Or certainly just as bad in a different way. That is the real tragedy and cost of Bush-Cheney's dishonesty in dragging us into this occupation without any realistic plan for what to do once we get there.
