The fact that Iran is ready to do the same at home precludes any thought of invasion, even from the nuttiest neocons.

And that the Hezbollah/Iraqi resistance model will be copied and copied.

It's one more signal that US occupation of Iraq is out of the question, even the obvious present plans to have long term bases in Iraq to protect oil resources. I don't see that as viable now. And wonder when and if the Bush folk or their successors will see so as well.

Nobody, after watching the Iran-Iraq war, wants to mess with the Iranians. They have a huge, semi-modern, motivated military and can mobilize the population.

Iraq was ground down into the ground by decades of sanctions and loony leadership.

Maybe the time will come when Iran could be successfully invaded but not any time soon.

One of the things I have a hard time grasping is people who don't understand the conceptual basis for war. Wars of conquest are different from wars of liberation which are different from wars of defense.

Wars of conquest only work if you are willing to absolutely crush the enemy, inflicting at least 10% casualties and more of the adult males. Ask Sherman.

Iraq, on the other hand, was not a war of conquest, it was a war of liberation for the majority of the population (Shia, Kurd and non-Baath Sunnis).

Iran isn't ready to be liberated, now, and maybe never.
