The problem is that Bin Laden's definition of leaving all Arab lands is cutting off relations sufficiently to allow him and his cronies to run roughshod over the region and set up Taliban-like regimes over a wide swath of the Middle East. Not a desirable alternative.

The trick is finding a middle ground without someone jujitsuing us into the role of the bad guy every time we turn around.

You realize of course, that bin Laden's number two man reminded us that Spain is also "Arab lands".
