" tags -- with the correct bracket style, of course -- text outside the pre-formatted area uses the maximum window width (width=absolute_number, maybe) instead of the available window (width=100%). After spending considerable time shrinking the width of tabular data, this is disappointing.

Tested it and it works fine. I recommend a post, saw the recommendation. Turned off recommendations and the recommendation was not visible, and the recommend post link was not available. Turned back on recommendations and the recommendation returned (which was the main thing I was testing)
