<<Conversation among them was sparse until the last one arrived and we could not help but hear some of their conversations after as they each greeted the other like it had been a long time since they last saw each other, even though it was the morning before.>>

In the Midwest we call that bullshit. Some made up and some rehashed. Lot more made up. You'd think the guys hated each other but let one of them have a problem and you'd see friendship in action.

It reminds me of an old "Hardee's"" in Spartanburg. Every morning the old men would meet for their country style sausage gravy breakfast! It was amazing to me that the men all smoked like chimneys (it was still allowed) and ate this artery clogging breakfast, and yet they were fit and having fun every morning...

Country-Style Sausage Gravy

Serve this hearty gravy over biscuits.

Serves 4

Ingredients

1 pound Ground breakfast sausage
2 Tablespoons Flour
1 1/2 cups Milk
1 1/2 cups Water
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions

Brown the crumbled sausage in a heavy skillet over medium heat. Sprinkle on the flour. Cook for three minutes, stirring frequently.
Whisk in the milk and water. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 25 minutes, stirring often.
Serve warm over hot biscuits.
