Just watched a TV show where the farrier grabbed the horse's hoof and got kicked into last week. Gotta pat the horse, run your hand down the back of the leg and slip it around to the front and the hoof lifts up. THEN you pick it clean. One way works and the other gets you killed, big animals, gotta do it right.
