Let me try a different tack. It seems that you have certain ideas, and you see them as being mostly in the political center. You seem to have a lot of concern for consensus, and you think that there could be a consensus that at least somewhat resembles ideas that you support. The particulars (like believing in "using force for defense or to help a good cause, but not reckless adventures") are somewhat vague, but that's not surprising when your dealing with general principles rather than specific situations. Also since you are trying to achieve consensus there is going to have to be some vagueness.

You don't think that whatever happens to be in the middle should automatically be accepted. If the center was wildly different than ideas you support that probably wouldn't cause you to change, or shut up about your ideas.

Am I on the right track here?
