Yes, I've commented on that exact point before. But given that we understand this element of the Arab psyche, why can't we adopt ways that still achieve the goal?

My biggest objection to the road map approach is precisely this: It wants the Pals to cry Uncle first, then comes peace. We know they have a severe problem with this. So why not figure out a method of providing honor while still achieving peace. The fighting in S. Lebanon is not helping in this way. It is the opposite.

Nadine pointed this out as well, stating that much of the Arab rage against Israel is a result of shame at being beaten by the much smaller side, and by people who they have traditionally considered inferior. Fine, that is a significant part of the problem, so how might one adapt one's methods to mitigate this issue, while still achieving the goal of peace for both Jews and Arabs?

To me, only the goal counts. So use whatever means get us there. I don't see the current means as helpful.

I keep looking at Zimbabwe. I can say for damn sure, that the vast majority of Zimbabweans are a good deal worse off now than they were under Ian Smith. However, in one respect they are better off: pride. Why can't we understand how important that is to every human being, then alter out methods so that compromise goals can be achieved while addressing this issue?
