Buffer zone is science fiction? There's been one between North and South Korea for decades. NO ONE sets foot in there as there are soldiers on both sides. Whichever side you are coming from, the other side will shoot you before you clear the land mines and barbed wire. It is called a "no mans land" and you either respect it or die. The goat herders and others quickly learn that as it isn't particularly difficult. A sign with a soldier putting a bullet through a running man's back is all you need to get the message through to anyone. Saw those in Singapore. People of all nationalities understand the meaning of the sign very clearly, even though there are no words on it. You need to brush up on your history a bit.
