Many of my relatives live in Israel including my mother, brother, nephews, cousin etc. So guess I do have a vested interest. I lived there 5 years including two months at Bar'Am on the border of Lebanon opposite Bint Jbeil.

After the previous invasion and occupation of Lebanon I would have thought they had learned their lesson not to play Hizbullah's games. There is no way to solve this militarily. They need to strike Hizbullah back to deter other attempts by other groups and then try to do the NATO force + internal Lebanese deal. They aren't going to stay occupying Lebanon again. That would be madness. So what does pushing the Hizbullah remnants 5 to 25km back to the Litani achieve? All they seem to have done is cement Lebanese and Arab opinion behind Hizbullah. In the first few days of the conflict public and political level opinion in the Arab World was criticizing Hizbullah for starting this, but not anymore now the outrage against the Israeli action is stronger. Eventually Israel will retreat Hizbullah will be undefeated as such. And then what?

I can't help feeling somewhat responsible when Israel does things I think are bad.... Particularly, because the sad thing is I think all the suffering of the Lebanese people is futile.
