I hope your relatives stay safe. My thoughts are with all the people of Lebanon and Israel. What a mess ... very sad ... as an American, I'm embarrassed by my government's inaction.

Best Wishes.

Agree Israel really messed up. Seems revenge took a much higher place than common sense. Hope your family comes through unscathed.

How does all of this stop? Can you see a way out of the revenge cycle? There seems to be so much hatred there that it's almost impossible for there to ever be peace. The Lebanese now crying for help were dancing in the streets 3 weeks ago when the Israelis were kidnapped/killed for no reason. How can you have peace when one side is religiously bent on annihilating the other side, and the other side has the means of annihilating everyone in the region?

Many americans simply cannot understand the hatred. They think it's so simple, so black and white. The US steps in and everyone plays nice. It doesn't work like that. Do these people also think the US said "go to war, we're behind you 100%". If they do they should study what's going on in Iraq right now. More trouble in the Middle East is the LAST thing the US wants to have happen right now. Suspect Bush isn't sleeping well at night.

Even if the US is successful in stopping the war the violence will continue, just at a lower level. War has never been a clean activity. It's expensive, messy, ugly, and a lot of people die who shouldn't. That's why countries try everything before going to war.

With Israel's actions of the past week the hatred has taken on new life. OTOH, if Hezbollah hadn't invaded Israeli territory and killed/kidnapped israelis, we probably wouldn't be discussing this at all.

FWIW I still think Israel may be trying to create a buffer zone. It's the only reason I can find to explain what they are doing as we speak. Can anyone offer a different reason?
