Huh? How can a computer printout have hanging chads??!!

I didn't say a computer printout can have hanging chads. I said hardcopies (which are not limited to printouts, but include other types of ballots) can have hanging chads or they can have similar issues.

Hard copies are not a panacea. We can have neocon thugs snatching and destroying them. I agree.

Or more likely you can have Democratic precincts count questionable votes as being votes for the Democratic candidate. Either way its not perfect. Change and improvements are incremental. Its not like the voting machines you complain about are perfectly bad, or any replacement would be perfectly good. If you think we need to change for the better go for it, you might do some good, but the changes will occur at the margin over time, and there will always be questions or problems with very tight races.
