The question still remains - haven't the profits of the oil companies gone through the roof over the last 5 or so years?

Refiners have jacked up prices 85% since 2000. I just posted that article earlier today. 85% more profits, without needing to, and that has nothing to do with the price of oil. But the same big oil companies that control the supply also control the refineries. They control the entire pipeline from drilling to the gas pump, with or without foreign nation partners.
