Enron led the way for all the energy companies to create the artificial shortages and gouge us in 2000-2001. And after the GOP took back the Senate, they started up again, knowing Bush-Cheney were on their side and would never investigate. So they've just been charging anything they damn please. And who's going to stop them?

Another part of their scheme was to kill the Kerry-McCain CAFE standards bill in 2001 which would have saved us more oil than is in all of Alaska. They wanted us to continue guzzling and buying SUV's to keep demand up. Now people have no choice but to guzzle until they can afford a new more efficient car. And it's hurt DEtroit most of all. All three US automakers are sucking wind because they sided with the big oil lobbyists. Bushies also killed the bill that would have made air-conditioners more efficient. That was a huge blow to conservation.
