We agree. It does take patience, but one can patiently screw up. Take Bush.

I think the mid-east was making some real progress ~1999-2000. [I have no doubt that people will disagree with that assessment.] But progress requires continual care. Then the parties saw Clinton as a lame duck and decided to be patient [or stall] until they saw who was going to be the next Pres and what his policies were going to be.

Bush came in and said he was going wait until everyone in the mid-east was sick and tired of it all. He dropped the ball to be "patient". It rapidly slid down hill and it's been going down hill ever since.
