If Charlie Cook said it, it's actually much more important than you or I saying it.

I'm not so sure about that. Yes he is more of an expert but you can line up experts on both sides on many issues. Ask 10 experts and get 11 opinions. I'm not a big fan with arguments by authority even when the authority in question really is an expert in the field, with a good track record. I can respect the expert enough to give their arguments a careful hearing if I'm exposed to them, but I don't care much about "X says this will happen", no matter who X is.

As for all those meanings you mention, the word "rout" doesn't exactly fit any of them.

I didn't give those meanings as definitions for "rout" but rather win. - "Even a win is not clearly defined. It could mean picking up seats, it could mean picking up both houses, or it could mean picking up both."

I think the last could be called a rout but I wouldn't call it one unless it resulted in a strong majority in the House, and most of the in play Senate seats.
