Strange. Bush doesn't mind 3 million Mexicans coming over but has a problem with 20,000 Cubans.

And neither did Clinton or Gore. They DID PRACTICALLY NOTHING to stem the tide of illegals, despite the Jordan Commission making a number of recommendations.

But note that the JC does NOT recommend a guest worker registration process for illegals, which I think is basically the smartest answer that encourages compliance as opposed to defiance.

As for the Cuban influx.. the last time we had a mass exodus of Cubans, Castro released the majority of his criminals and sent them to the US, where they many were re-incarcerated at US taxpayer's expense.

But I will grant that neither party has been effective in making progress on this issue, which I believe is unforgiveable given the events of 9/11.

Bush wants cheap workers. Where they exist or how they're treated are immaterial to our FratBaby in Chief IMO.

It is pretty amazing how, even with Nafta and that giant sucking sound, more Mexicans aren't employed at home. I don't get why Saudi Arabia has a 30% unemployment rate either.

Things out there are weirder and dumber than they appear.
