Bush doesn't really support Israel, he is supports waging war to swipe elections (or oilfields) and the neocon Christian rightwing's End Of Days Armageddon fantasy where was in the Middle East is the prelude to christ's 2nd Coming. Of course it's all garbage. But much of the Bush foreign policy stems from this dark fantasy by his far rightwing base. I'm not even sure Bush understands it, he just does as he's told by the religious right and the oil lobby.

Remember back in 2000 he promised a "humble foreign policy and no nation-building", plus he promised to jawbone OPEC to bring down gas prices, which were 50% then what they are today.
