Wouldn't we be defined as "self-loathing Americans" if defined by our current government?

We've killed what, 50,000 people in Iraq? With less cause than Israel?

Yet I think there are probably quite a number of compassionate people running our government. My college roommate is a big dooly at treasury, most compassionate person I've ever known, we used to make fun of him over it. There are compassionate people in the Congress, the judiciary, the executive agencies.

Unless you are there and in the mix and seeing it for yourself, I don't think you can accurately measure the compassion of the people running a country.

At least we know Israel isn't attacking Lebanon for its oil.

there are, no doubt, many in Israel.

There are; there's a peace movement. Its fortunes wax and wane just like the one here.
There was like a 5% fringe here against even going to Afghanistan. Wasn't one of them, mice elf. But I was when it was 15 or 25 or whatever against going into Iraq, B4 it 60 saying we are screwed, get us out.
But CR also quite right. I would be considered that by many. There really isn't a lot of differences between extremists in any cause. And you get glimpses of it not only here (SI), but all over the net; discussion threads on the oil drum, realclimate, whatever sound a lot like ours at times. Very black/white divisions. No grey at all, for an extremist. Especially no rainbow, which also comes from white light, and is more cheerful than grey, btw, tyvm.
