"Collective punishment" is a tactic that has been used throughout history.

(Although it is classified as an illegal act under international law.)

Couple of thoughts....

1. why is it bad for a General to be compassionate about his own country?

2. a war is a war...Since when is ANY force "disproportionate". Should not the aim of the war be to WIN? So...the more the merrier.

There is no such thing as disproportionate force... if Israel wanted to murder civilians, then Israel could easily have taken out the power grids in lebanon the first night, along with all communication towers, and carpet bombed all the cities... but they didn't, they're being very careful not to cause civilian casualties, unlike their enemy who does nothing but fire rockets into Israeli towns and cities for the primary purpose of murdering civilians and value the hatred of Israel more than they value the lives of their own women and children... what is beyond belief is that the left in our own country fail to see the obvious and still continue to blame Bush for everything including bad weather in the midwest...
