I would agree with you if I knew that the $3 million was an expense we'll see EVERY quarter and not just an expense we saw this ONE quarter. Could this be associated with hiring Waechter (and so be a 1-time event)? Also, does this represent the *anticipated* cost of options (some of which may not be realized) or an *actual* cost (of past options that were exercised)?

In any case, I think this deserves closer scrutiny.

Stratex Networks Swings To 1Q Profit On 21% Sales Boost

Stratex Networks Inc. (STXN) swung to a fiscal first-quarter profit of $1.82 million, or 2 cents a share, from a year-earlier loss of $4.17 million, or 4 cents a share, as sales rose 21%.

Excluding stock-option expenses, the San Jose wireless transmission systems company swung to a non-GAAP profit of 5 cents a share from a non-GAAP loss of 4 cents a share.

For the fiscal first quarter ended June 30, sales rose to $66.2 million from $54.9 million.

The company expects second-quarter earnings, excluding stock-option expenses, of 4 cents to 6 cents a share, on revenue of $63 million and $66 million.

In after-hours trading on Nasdaq, the company's shares fell to $3.34 from its close of $3.56 in Nasdaq composite trading.
