I studied the S+L debacle. The real problem was they refused to enforce regulations. The "free enterprise" attitude meant UN-regulated not just DE-regulated, so all the white collar crooks ran to the troughs.

I would venture to say that every major energy company is now involved in aggressive price gouging, in collusion and 100% cooperation with each other. That's a major criminal offense. Maybe the biggest ripoff in US history. even if it's only 20% of the total price it's huge-huge-huge. But in some cases it's much more than 20%. In some cases it's 200%.
