You will have to pay CGT even if you don't sell? And retroactive if you do? If either makes sense to take the hit and reinvest in Aus. Firm like Grant Thornton seem to be expert on tax vis a vis US-Australia interactions I have heard. Maybe can help you...

Problem with Aus stock investments is due to the imputation credit system you potentially get less return than Australian investors in the same stock.
