I think I see your problem. You have a reading comprehension issue plus a lack of understanding of basic set theory. Maybe that is why you are always so grumpy.

As you CLEARLY showed, Bogle did not say core and explore was not valid. In interviews, I've heard him admit he uses the technique himself.

All that quote says is what it says..."No reason whatsoever that index funds should not be 100% of an equity portfolio."

He is saying that is a good thing to do but he is not saying you should not have SOME activly managed funds. I wish I could draw circles to explain grade school set theory. I think I could make the logic clear to you once and for all.

In fact, some think having an explore portfolio allows you to get the urge to gamble and hit the QQQQ home run like Brinker attempted, out of your system. It limits the downside damage to a small portion of your portfolio if you are like most, unsuccessful. If you are successful, then the higher rate of return will allow you to leave your job, windsurf, make money as a writer and take abuse on message boards trying to help folks understand complex topics.
