It really does sound like a tiny version of Dubya's fiasco in Iraq. There's this supreme confidence at the onset, lots of predictions and apparently not much planning. It just grinds on with lots of civilian casualties and destruction of infrastructure but without much progress.

We have apparently crossed the line all around the world where these hugely expensive and sophisticated cold war militaries are very destructive but not effective. Maybe this will force serious and realistic negotiations. OTOH, if Dubya's ideology has its way, maybe this will force the use of nukes.
