Should Alcohol be banned. Lots of folks addicted to that and it certainly costs more to society than gambling addiction.

Or are people to be allowed their vices of choice, but not given a safety net if the vice consumes them?

I don't know if I want government legislating all sorts of conduct. Where is personal responsibility? Acceptance of risk?

I'm not saying that people who gamble, drink, smoke, eat fast foods, etc., etc., can't (or don't) cause problems for themselves.

What I'm saying is that --- unlike YOU --- I don't want a big intrusive, 'Big Nanny' government looking over everyone's shoulders and telling adults how they are allowed to live their lives.

Freedom is freedom, and perhaps the BEST definition of freedom is 'being free to do stupid things'... so long as you don't harm others.

(And, YOU are the one who --- by wanting a big Authoritarian government to 'regulate' everything --- winds up raising everyone's taxes [after all: one can't have a big intrusive government without paying for it....] and eroding the individual liberties our founders fought so hard to leave to us....)
