I don't find ignore to be a very useful feature, at least on SI. On Yahoo there are many posters who never contribute anything of value, and putting them on ignore is very effective in removing their hundreds of worthless posts insulting others and/or proclaiming their own brilliance. On SI, almost everyone has moments of brilliance, and most regularly contribute value. I may not like what some people have to say, and may not even like some posters (doesn't apply here), but definitely want to hear what everyone has to say. Ignoring people who don't say what you want to hear is a sign of a small mind. It can also make you look foolish and/or arrogant to others who follow the thread and see you reposting stuff or making comments that don't make sense in the context of the thread (because you only have part of the context).
