I'm not jewish, but it is my understanding that converting to Judaism is not a trivial excercise...so in your example, the child would not be Jewish - thats my understanding.

Interesting. What is a Jewish man and non-Jewish woman have a child, and the mother didn't convert? The baby is not a Jewish child?

In that case the child needs to convert. If the parents want to raise the child as Jew, the conversion can be done while the child is young.
