An odd thing I find about religion and politics ... not 100%, but more often true than not.

Those that lean to the right are quite vocal religious values being supressed in US society. But when queried about their own religious beliefs they tend to say: "None of your business.",

Those that lean to the left may be quite vocal about the separation of Church and State. When queried about their own religious beliefs they tend to say what they are.

I wonder whether the perception of religious "suppression" is driven by the individuals willingness to express themselves, i.e., If I feel comfortable in saying I'm a Roman Catholic; I don't perceive that my religious values are suppressed in society. If I'm uncomfortable in public saying what religion I am, that creates my illusion that my religious values are being suppressed.
