Deposing Saddam, extinguishing the WMD threat, and turning a democratically elected government over to the Iraqi people was the right mission and the proper thing to do.

However, I must admit that if nation-building had been the stated objective of going into Iraq, the American people would never have supported it.

Having accomplished the stated mission more than a year ago, our biggest mistake was not declaring victory and getting out then.
