I'm not making a point of hypocrisy. I'm making a point that a person's attitudes can shape their perception of reality. The observation, if true, doesn't require a value judgment.

Unfortunately, "None of your business" doesn't explain very well what the underlying reason[s] might be for an unwillingness to state what a person's religious belief is. It's no more informative than "I don't want to answer that question."

I could speculate on reasons why a person would not want to respond, but it would only be speculation. Jews might be more reluctant than Christians in a majority Christian society purely due to their historic persecution. Today, Muslims might be reluctant to express their religous persuasion in the US because of a fear of being branded an Islamic terrorist. A Catholic might not be inclined to say they are Catholic, because they don't want to lumped in with all the positions of Pope Benedict. If it has any importance, it's likely only important to the individual in an introspective examination.
