"And the fact that Syria STILL REJECTS the existence of Lebanon as a country means that Hizbullah was acting as a Syrian proxy aimed at denying Lebanon its sovereignty."

Would you have a link for your assertion?

This is how I understand it works:

country-data.com
"Syria officially recognizes Lebanon's de jure existence but has refused to open formal diplomatic relations. Syria feels justified in exerting hegemony over Lebanon and ensuring that it remains a Syrian satellite. In fact, since 1976 Syria has virtually annexed parts of Lebanon. Finally, Syria views the recovery of the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights as a national priority. Syrian citizens support their government's policy toward these three areas almost unanimously."

Hizbullah also was the primary organization in Lebanon that OPPOSED the pull-out of Syrian occupation forces.

And the fact that Syria STILL REJECTS the existence of Lebanon as a country means that Hizbullah was acting as a Syrian proxy aimed at denying Lebanon its sovereignty.

No, it doesn't mean that. It means that Hezbollah believed the Neocon connivance to push Syria out of Lebanon was setting the table for Israel to invade Lebanon. Guess what? They were right.

It's worth noting that Syria's occupation of Lebanon was requested by Lebanon and green-lighted by Israel and the U.S. It's also worth noting that Syria's occupation of Lebanon was beneficial to Lebanon. They politically stabilized a chaotic country, and fostered an economic boom.
