es, it's good to know that us in the western world are superior to the Arabs in that we are immune to the attraction of demagogues

Now, Carl, I never said "immune". Westerners have plenty of buttons to push too. But nothing compared to this "Arab pride and defiance" button that Nasrallah is pushing.

When you can get people whose prospects you are actively ruining to cheer for you, that is really something. We can have no doubt that Nasrallah is actively ruining the prospects of the non-Shia in Lebanon. He started a war that serves no Lebanese interest whatsoever. If Israel wins, Lebanon faces a renewed civil war. If Hezbullah wins, Lebanon will turn into another Shia-run Iran in little. Either way, the prospects for the Sunni are not bright. Yet they still cheer!

Do you contest my point that if those people in the cafe were Jews instead of Sunni, they would be reacting completely differently?

Three whole weeks so far. This is long indeed for an Israeli war. Other wars are not run against stopwatches, so are reckoned differently. I think Israel has been cured of the idea of trying to control the Shia population. They just want to break the military power of Hezbullah.

Hizbullah was well dug in. How long did it take the Marines to take Iwo Jima? Nobody was accusing them of war crimes everytime a civilian died, either.
