China and Walmart are really separate issues. If Walmart didn't exist the Chinese goods would just be sold through other outlets.

Walmart is more efficient, so it can sell goods while using up less resources than the retail stores it took its market from. The fact that it uses less resources (per amount of goods it sells) means that more resources are freed up for the rest of the economy.
