You make sone very good points, Mary.

The long-term direction of humankind has always been upward. All species evolve toward the more complex and perfected. There is more truth and justice in the world today than ever before.

With all the glitches, the backsliding, the dark ages, and whatever else, the direction is relentlessly upward.

Why, if one didn't know better, they might almost suspect there is a plan at work here ;-)
