Hi Nadine Carroll; Re: "And isn't it contradictory to call a war so trifling that it's a "slap fight" and exterminating campaign all at the same time?"

I never used the phrase "exterminating campaign". I did use the phrase "total war", which I regard, in this context, as an example of how journalists don't know what "war" is, much less "total war". I wrote "slap fight" right next to "total war", how stupid are you to miss the irony?

Let me repeat it for you yet again. There have been more people killed in single ships lost at sea than Israel lost in some of its "wars". Heck, the US lost about 600 sailors to sharks and exposure when the cruiser Indianapolis went down. There were 1547 drowned when the Sultana went down in 1865 near Memphis. 1195 people were killed by a single German torpedo when the Lusitania was sunk in 1915. Israel is small potatoes. The phrase "runt state" comes to mind.

Re: "The Congress just voted support for Israel by huge majorities, and the anti-Lieberman campaign is not being run by Arabs."

What's your point here? Do you think that the US's pro Israeli politicians are all Jews? No, the political parties represent constituencies. Do you think Mel Gibson is an Arab? Patrick Buchanan is hardly Arab, but read his latest column:

If the Israeli problem in the US were only from Arabs, there would be little problem. The problem for Israel is not the Arabs, it is the friends of Arabs here. Likewise, the problem for the Arabs was not American Jews, it was Americans who were friends of Jews. With a more balanced ratio here in the US, the friendship also becomes more balanced. And it is a very long term trend.

Remember, 25,000 US citizens were in Lebanon, how could you expect to avoid reporting that showed the Lebanese point of view?

Re: "Most of the Arabs in this country aren't even Muslim, so your predictions of how America is growing towards the Arabs is so much hot air."

The Arabs I've known were not at all sympathetic to Israel. But I believe you are right that not that many of them are Muslim. But the Americans who are Muslim, whether Arab or not, are generally unsympathetic towards Israel.

But I'm not making "predictions" here, I'm simply observing the secular trend. From 1967 through 1974 not a single poll ever showed more than single digit sympathy for the Arabs over the Israelis. Since September 2001, even with the WTC attack, only 14 polls showed such low sympathy, while 26 showed double digit levels:

Now Israel still has better numbers, but remember, Israel has to retain US financial and military support FOREVER, and FOREVER is a very very long time. Furthermore, it is during times of instability in the Middle East that Israel needs US assistance most, but that is exactly when the US is least able to afford it. At the same time, that is when the Arab oil states are most able to afford contributions to guerillas near Israel. It's not a pretty picture.
