In every endeavor, one can find corruption, dishonesty, lustfulness and men given to power. The business of "religion" is no different.

So, what does a man do? Seek God, not man.

Just as you do not quit going to the grocery store just because a grocer was caught molesting a child, so one should not quit seeking God because man is fallen.

I think pedophile priests are more incredible. I've got some of those stories as well

Case in point:

WINDSOR, Ont. -- Roman Catholic Bishop Ronald Fabbro announced Sunday he will petition the Vatican for Rev. Charles Sylvestre who has pleaded guilty to ex charges to be dismissed as a priest.

The Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of London, in Ontario, said there will soon be "a measure of justice" with the court sentence to be handed to Sylvestre who pleaded guilty last week to 47 sexual assaults on children during a 36-year period.

"But the church can do more," he said.

It is believed Sylvestre, 83, of Belle River, would be the first priest in Ontario to be defrocked a decision that must be approved by Pope Benedict XVI.

Fabbro announced his decision with many of Sylvestre's victims tearfully looking on during a sombre and emotional mass at St. Ursula parish in Chatham, Ont.

He apologized to the victims for the abuse they endured and also for the church's failure to protect them from the hands of Sylvestre, during a 15-minute homily.

Greater proactive measures will be pursued to prevent future abuse by priests and to better support any other victims who wish to emerge with their own accusations of sexual misconduct by church leaders, Fabbro vowed to a congregation of about 600.

"What could be more hypocritical, people ask, than this evil? What could be a greater betrayal of innocence? And they are right," he said.

About 20 Sylvestre victims and their supporters staged a protest outside the church. Fabbro met briefly with the group prior to the mass.

Sylvestre pleaded guilty to sexual acts on young girls most often between the ages of nine and 14 that included fondling, genital touching and attempted intercourse. Some of his victims told the court they were raped by Sylvestre, but he has maintained never having intercourse with those he assaulted.

Victims remain angry because church leaders transferred Sylvestre across southwestern Ontario without ever disciplining him or forcing him to seek treatment.

"This is about all victims of abuse by priests whether men or women. This has got to stop," said Irene Williams, 55, among Sylvestre's earliest victims in 1959-60 when growing up as a child in Sarnia.

Her life has included addiction to sleeping pills, bouts of depression and gambling problems.

"There are a lot of good priests and he's shaming them by wearing the collar and knowing what he has done," she said. "He should be defrocked."
