That's the same idiotic argument that the Bushies are now using in Iraq. The Lebanese/Iraqi governments are responsible for controlling their country even while Israel/US bomb it to smithereens and send in troops.

Given that the biggest and, apparently, the fourth largest (maybe just the fourth most expensive or the one with lots of nukes) militaries in the world can't figure out what to do in Lebanon/Iraq, it's ridiculous AND NASTY to whine about the weak governments trying to accomplish the task.

This is the most inane part of the rightwing foreign 'policy': they demand tons of money and tons of respect and then whine incessantly about assymetric warfare and how unfair the pipsqueaks are being to the elephants. It's the kind of 'leadership' one expects in a junior high school.

1. Syria was booted out by the 'Cedar Revolution' and left a power vacuum to be filled by Hezbollah.

2. The rightwing Israeli and US governments have been planning the Israel/Lebanon conflict for years hoping to bring Syria and Iran into the fray.

3. As long as people (not them) are killing each other and using up armaments, the rightwing Israeli and US governments are basically OK with regional conflict. They're like BigPharma who loves expensive, chronic illnesses that create an endless stream of profits into their coffers but hate actual cures.

The Lebanese are responsible for their own sovereignty. If the government was given support and other countries didn't meddle in the region they would eventually get a handle on the radicals in their midst. It's up to neutral third parties to offer AN ALTERNATIVE way to resolve differences which is always cheaper than going to war.

People do this all the time. If there's a property dispute because your idiot neighbor built a gazebo in your backyard would you go mow him down with an Uzi? I suspect you would hire an idiot lawyer and go to an idiot court in front of an idiot judge and make your idiot neighbor remove the gazebo and pay you compensation.

The court process doesn't even require much more than idiot-level people to operate so IT CAN BE DONE with countries who, one would hope, would have people slightly less idiotic.

The important thing is for individuals and organizations and states and countries TO NOT vote in or provide power to or let stand rightwing aggression. Without consent of the governed the few cannot take over and rule. If the governed sit back out of fear and do not fight back then you get WWII.

This is a very bad problem with the human species. We claim to be eagles and tigers when we're mostly just sheep and cows. Therefore, those of us who are concerned and can think things through and can see the lies and the danger SHOULD SPEAK UP.
