If you will allow ..... there is time point 0 there is time point 380,000 years there is time point after 380,000 years there is NO physics to explain the time point between 0 and 380,000 so (respectfully) - don't go there ..... to make matters worse .... today we can't find today's matter and we can't find today's energy ..... lastly, and you can punch me out for this one, Koan missed my point .... there is NO REQUIREMENT for LIFEFORMS for the universe to exist ..... - or - show me the physics .... Gib, I have been reading "Nothingness" by Henning genz for years. The whole book is about vacuums and particle physics. I seldon understand what I am reading put I persever-lol. The thing about vacuum energy is that one part of the vacuum can borrow energy from another part, so you can have negative energy, I think-lol? All vacuums have inherent energy (the cosmological constant drawing galaxies apart at faster and faster rates)?. But just like all the matter in the universe equals (positive?--can't remember)all the gravity (negative?) as Alan Guth said the universe is a free lunch". As long as the positives and the negatives balance I think the universe makes it work. As you said way above anyone's real understanding. And I would add I am sure the real reality of "everything" is much different than we little ants think it is-lol. For one thing it probably includes infinite diminsions.
