The line endlessly repeated in the media is that the leaders of Iran are mad and dangerous, and it's implied that it would be a Good Thing if Israel were to launch a pre-emptive strike. But I think it's perfectly rational for Iran to seek the nuclear deterrent. Look what happened to Iraq, which lacked a deterrent, and to N Korea, which didn't.

That's not say that Ahmadinejad isn't a religious loonie, but so is GWB.
