If it were just that simple.... (Don't forget the PR contest for popularity in the Islamic world between the Shiite [Protestant analogue] Hezbollah vs. Sunni [Catholic analogue] Hamas.) (Also, don't forget the clear benefits accruing to Iran & to Syria & to the Shiite government in Iraq: when the Shiite proxy army gains in the PR battle with Hamas --- by being more successful at confronting Israel then Hamas --- then the entire Shiite Crescent [Iran/Iraq/Syria & large portions of Afghanistan and Lebanon] is strengthened vs. the Sunni states that have long marginalized them, Saudi Arabia, Gulf States, Egypt, Pakistan, etc.) (And, of course, Syria and Iran have their own INDEPENDENT reasons for encouraging this proxy conflict with Israel. Syria wants a deal that will give the Golan back to it, and Iran wanted to divert world attention from it's strategic nuclear program....)
