Swamped by a couple of decades of big budgets and big deficits, I'll wager....

(But, the Authoritarian impulse [impelling us toward big centralized government], and social/religious conservatism [also requiring a robust government role to implement & enforce social policies], are still around and kicking... still part of what 'conservatism' is popularly believed to be. Perhaps Authoritarianism/Nationalism and Puritanical social conservatism have ganged up to 'retire' small government fiscal conservatism?)
