I think we call it democracy when the people speak, and a candidate goes down in flames. If Lieberman is defeated, then it means what he is selling isn't valued by enough people. That's hardly Stalinesque- that's democracy and a free market of ideas. It's easy to rail about how creepy it all is when the people elect someone who doesn't embrace your ideas, or reject someone who supports them- but people need to remember that when a candidate they don't like is rejected, they don't have the same concerns about Papa Stalin :-)

Poor Joe. It's tough to lose- but that's the way it is with a political race- there will be winners and losers. It's just sour grapes to condemn the system when your man isn't good enough to win. IMO, of course.

Point taken. Stalinesque does imply a bullet in the back of the head or being sent off to a gulag, so that word was overkill. I don't think many of the mad Dems in CT really want this - I hope.

Be a heck of a thing if Lieberman wins, huh?

Been thinking more about that Stalinesque word. Yes, it doesn't fit the Lieberman situation.

When Saddam took over Iraq, called a Baath party meeting, and read out names during a long speech and as each name was spoken, soldiers dragged them out and shot them. That was Stalinesque.

When Raul Castro machine-gunned 250+ men in a ditch after the Cuban revolution, that was Stalinesque. When Che Guevera was running the La Cabana prison executing Jehovahs Witnesses, homosexuals, dissidents, etc. for "crimes against revolutionary morals" that was Stalinesque.

Lieberman was more of an excommunication.
