Bush Sr. was never so stupid as to take the UN for granted as you do. He knew that he needed the broad based support he enjoyed and he knew he would have it only so long as he was willing to be subservient to the UN. Bush Jr took your approach -- and we are sending our young men and women to die for a lost cause in a quagmire as a result. There are two approaches -- Bush Sr. took the smart approach and showed real respect for the UN. Bush Jr. took the arrogant smart ass approach, so ably presented by you here, and royally screwed up the US. Pretend away. Enjoy your delusions. The UN provides a form of indispensable legitimacy. Without it, we are just thugs with guns, and that is exactly how the rest of the world views us -- they see reality.
