<Who's taking the UN for granted?> You. You presume that the US can say that the UN was merely doing what it was told to do all along by the US, so if the UN decides to stop going along then then the US can simply step in and decide what to do on its own and do it in the name of the UN. Saddam and Bush Jr. did the same thing -- they invaded and occupied countries who did not threaten them nor attack them. Two thugs, one with a bigger gun. The lesser thug couldn't pull it off. The greater thug smirked that the mission was accomplisehd years ago. That is all you have when you descend into the gutter of unilateral invasion -- a smirking thug patting himslef on the back while the storm clouds are gathering above him. That is exactly where Bush Sr. did not want to end up. And that is exactly where Bush Jr has taken us -- only our bigger gun is no use to us in Iraq. Now we need broad based legitimacy and support, only we pissed that away by going the route of acting like thugs instead of world leaders.
